“Movie” intercoms: from "Mission Impossible" to "The usual idiots"

“Movie” intercoms: from "Mission Impossible" to "The usual idiots"

There are objects that with their debut bring innovation and new habits, and with time they change our lives, becoming everyday use: even if technology evolves, transforming them, they remain forever "cult" devices.

One of them is the intercom, today video intercom, a "creature" that Urmet has always pampered and evolved, the sound and visual interface between our intimacy of home and the outside world that wants to interact with us: there are countless legends, jokes, stories and strategies of control or courtship that have crystallized in front of a row of illuminated bells and a metal mask.

Here’s how cinema also tells this aspect of our life, proposing many "intercom scenes": let’s try to remember some of the most famous or most irreverent that we can find on entertainment platforms.

Will they be Urmet appliances or not? In some situations we have really incredible evidence; in others, when the frame doesn’t give us the details well, we can only make assumptions.

We start with a mythical film, the first of the long series of "Mission Impossible" in which Tom Cruise keeps us in suspense for almost 30 years: in a scene with high adrenaline, This 1996 film offers us an Ethan Hunt suspended on cables that downloads confidential files from a workstation that includes a pc and the legendary Urmet 1130 intercom.

And again, in the comedy of 2014 "...And outside it snows", the scene with the intercom proposes a chime at night in which Enzo Righi (Vincenzo Salemme) plays to his brother Stefano (Carlo Buccirosso) to ask for hospitality suffering the abuse of the neighbor.

If you like the demented genre, "I Soliti Idioti" has a hilarious scene with dad Ruggero De Ceglie who urges his son Gianluca to go down to church for his wedding... with the delicacy that distinguishes it!

The intercoms are present in several episodes of the recent successful television series "Mare Fuori", where stand out in particular our Alpha and our Miro, clearly visible in an elegant Neapolitan building.

But we also find them in other films such as, for example, "Ex - amici come prima" with Paolo Ruffini who leans carelessly on the pushbutton to make the flirt or in the dark thriller by David Lynch, Lost Highway (Lost Roads), in which "listening to the intercom at home and hearing your voice say that a guy is dead" is creepy!
